A BREATH OF ANTIQUE IN CONTEMPORARY MEDITERRANEAN
Don Šime Ljubić, one of the most prominent citizens of Hvar Island, Croatian archaeologist, historian and writer, through the construction of his mausoleum and villa unites two of his greatest passions – history and the very island of Hvar.
The story of Hvar or Pharos begins in famous Antique times, more precisely in 4th century BC when the island was colonized by Greeks from island of Paros - of which Hvar got its name. Thus Ljubić, proud of the rich heritage and spirit of his hometown, in a symbolical way honours the long and fruitful Hvar history by his mausoleum and villa, with a special emphasis on Hvar’s Antique roots and the heritage which the island abounds. It is then no wonder that Don Šime names his villa Apolon, after the mythological Greek god Apollo, born on Paros and its protector, as well as the god of music, sun, arts and colonization – which are also one of the most recognizable symbols of Hvar and its history. For this reason, the main guiding principle behind the renovation of the villa and mausoleum was to continue in Don Šime Ljubić’s steps and use modern contemporary design in a Mediterranean spirit and climate to preserve Hvar Antique heritage and Don Šime’s symbolism.
Don Šime Ljubić’s villa was redesigned into a modern fully-equipped villa with six suites/rooms, a restaurant and a wine bar. Large suites and rooms are designed for our guests’ maximum pleasure and satisfaction. Each suite is equipped with an air-conditioning, cable TV, wireless Internet, mini-bar, electronic safe and other additional contents. Your satisfaction is the top priority of the educated, professional and friendly staff of the Villa & Restaurant Apolon who also speak several foreign languages. Reflecting Don Ljubić’s fascination with science and art, each room and suite in the Villa carries the name of one of the Apollo’s Muses – mythological patrons of arts and science. Owing to the stunning sea and Riva views, modern design of the Villa interior, the staff’s attention to every detail and a pleasant atmosphere, just one night in Villa Apolon will make it your favourite place on the entire island of Hvar!
